The Credit Crunch

I've been with my boyfriend for three years, and each year present buying has got a little more ridiculous. Last year, he took me to York for a weekend and clubbing, and I took him to V festival which each cost over £300. Even though this is ridiculous considering that I was a student getting £30 a week and he was completing an apprentice so he was earning £150, I used to just save for months on end to get him the same value present.

Now that he's became redundant though and he gets £40 a week, and I now get £20, he has completely changed his tune. I don't even mind spending less because it took me about 10 weeks to save up for the same present he could get me in 1 week (after I paid for my bus fair to school and never bought anything at all), but I'm more annoyed that I used to beg him to spend a more reasonable amount because of my own financial problems and he never would. I'd feel totally inclined to spend the same and always would, but now he's in a similar financial situation to me he's suddenly wanting to only spend £10 begrudingly. I feel like he should appreciate how much it actually cost for me to save up but he's more concerned about what a waste of money my birthday is now. I know I sound totally unreasonable but it just annoys me how eveything always changes when he wants it to, and I just have to go along with it. I didn't make a massive deal out of the excessive spending because I didn't want him to be disappointed and I wanted it to be fair. It's like he's only concerned for his own finance, I bet if he got a job the spending price would go up again even if I was completely in the same boat.

I know I'm being unreasonable, but I still think it's unfair.
